Harborview Elementary Juneau Indian Studies

Indian Studies is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Title V Indian Education Act,
and supported by the Juneau School District

The primary goals of the Indian Studies Program for the next 3-5 years are:

  • To promote pride in culture, heritage, and self in Native students, along with the acceptance and understanding of Native cultures by non-Native students:
  • To increase the overall academic success of Native students by extending learning to after-school clubs and Saturday sessions. Cultural and language learning, along with academic skills, will be stressed and there will also be fun and recreation;
  • To provide training and support to regular classroom teachers in grades K-8; and
  • To involve parents and families working with the Indian Studies staff, teachers, and students in order to make a difference in each student's academic success.
