The Juneau School District Elementary Montessori Program consists of three Montessori classrooms to be housed in the Marie Drake facility
located downtown. This program serves approximately 80 students in an authentic Montessori elementary program and employs three full-time
elementary teachers and one part-time specialist, all of who are certified by AMI and also hold State of Alaska teaching licenses. One half-time
instructional aid is also employed. Expansion plans include the addition of an upper elementary class (for grades 4-6).
Our elementary Montessori Program is a free public school option. It does not require any tuition and is part of the Juneau School District.
The goal of the elementary years is to prepare children for life. This is done through a rich and complex, rigorous and respectful classical education.
The elementary program seeks to provide the child with the tools to become a learner independent of the adult, develop an understanding of how
to learn, provide a social setting where peaceful resolution to conflict is learned and practiced, acquaint the child with the democratic process,
instill respect for all living things, honor individuality and differences as well as civic participation, give the child a sense of belonging to the human
family and the universe.
