We had a wonderful trip to the wetlands with our Discovery Southeast naturalists, Rick and Cathleen. We learned about the wetlands ecosystem, and had a fantastic day in the sunshine. Photos will be up soon!
Nancy Lehnhart, district art teacher, taught us about Yup'ik artist, Ron Senungetuk, who designed a landmark bridge in Fairbanks. Students learned about the history of the Juneau-Douglas Bridge, and then designed and created an abstract 2-D bridge. The creation used concepts of fractions. multiples, factors of 100, and reinforced the understanding that the root centi- means hundred. They explored art concepts of rhythm, unity, and balance. Stop by and admire their work on display in our hallway!
David Katzeek and Jennifer Scott came to our classroom last Friday, April 8th. Mr. David told us about traditional Lingít games and entertainment. Then, Ms. Jennifer showed us how to play some games. It's easy to make your own versions of these games, so ask your child how to play!
Attachments below are photos from our Lingít game day and bridges!
