Welcome back from winter break! I hope you all had a relaxing time with your family and friends. January is shaping up to be a busy month with testing and fun opportunities for students to challenge themselves.
Next week, we start our MAPS (Measures of Academic Progress) testing for all students. These computerized tests allow teachers to create instructional plans based on the individual learning needs of students. Toward the end of the month, our 5th graders begin TerraNova testing. As you all know, it’s easier for our students to do their best on these tests when they’re well fed, rested, and encouraged.
Check the calendar for the Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, and Battle of the Books. They’re coming up in January and we wish all of our competitors good luck!
I’d like to congratulate our students and staff for the strides they’ve made with our newly implemented school-wide discipline plan, TAG (Teaching and Guidance). Discipline referrals are down by 60% in the two months since the plan has been in place, showing that the program’s consistent and clear guidance is helping students make the most of their learning day.
Finally, I’d like to remind you all that the Harborview Site Council meets on the second Monday of each month from 4:30 – 6:00 pm in the Harborview library. All are welcome!
I’m glad to see everyone back and hope you’re off to a great start in the New Year!
