K-2 Computer Lab

Students come to the computer once per week for 30-45 minutes.  The lab consists of Macintosh workstations and a projector for demonstrating the lessons prior to students beginning a project.

During their weekly lab visits, the students will increase their computer literacy skills based on Juneau School District Technology Curriculum. Each grade level has an appropriate set of goals and objectives for each school year.

Students in grades Kindergarten through First grade will learn basic computer parts, mouse skills, light word processing, awareness of the internet through the use of online curriculum-based learning sites, and graphics lessons using KidPix software.  Students will know how to use correct sitting, hand, arm and fingering positions to type complete sentences (including shift for capital letters, space bar for spacing and punctuation keys).

Students in Second grade in addition to proficiency in K-1st knowledge, they will learn advanced mouse skills (right clicking), work with two pieces of software open simultaneously (minimize one while switching to the other and split screen format) to create projects and reports in Word, and Power Point. Copyright laws governing text and pictures from internet sources will be presented.  Students will learn to copy pictures from pre-screened internet sites and paste them into their project. Charts and graphs are introduced using Excel. Students recognize accurate terminology to describe hardware, software, multimedia devices, and to identify the basic functions of technology resources commonly used in early elementary classrooms.
