Through the development and delivery of standards-based curriculum grounded in local, place-based themes, Native students will learn and grow in a culturally rich environment relevant to their cultural identity, history, worldview, and heritage language.Mission:TCLL's mission is to engage and unite a community of learners, tradition bearers, culture specialists and other educators to grow a mutually respectful and purposeful environment that supports the academic and cultural growth of all children.
Classrooms are open to all students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade in the Juneau School District. The classrooms are multi-age, literacy-based settings that emphasize academic skill development, cultural awareness, self-confidence and family involvement. The overall curriculum is unique, infusing Tlingit cultural knowledge throughout the curriculum while maintaining the academic expectations and standards set by the District and State.
Expand the TCLL Program Model District-wide K-8Refine and target academic and cultural support systems for K-8. Develop and disseminate thematic CBE/PBE curriculum. Implement family support systems for program parents/other Alaska Native parents. Develop Tlingit language curriculum and materials to implement Tlingit language instruction, along with a series of Tlingit cultural activities.
